Poll finds plurality of Americans want Trump to be convicted in impeachment trial
According to a new Quinnipiac University poll, more Americans want Trump to be convicted during his Senate impeachment trial than those who want to see the former President acquitted.
The poll found 50% of Americans saying Trump should be convicted, while 45% said he should be acquitted.
As expected the results were strongly by party line.
86% of Democrats called for Trump to be convicted compared to only 12% of Republicans.
Independent voters favored Trump being convicted 49-45.
Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy said “the impeachment question is framed by two distinctly different versions of history and offers as vivid an example of the chasm between Republicans and Democrats as you can find.”
